A Blackbird Singing

'A Blackbird Singing

This evening at dusk i heard a blackbird sing
The sound of his flute is a beautiful thing
It took me to places from here far away
When his kin bird sang sweetly in April and May,
I heard the blackbird sing in the twilight gray
And the first day of Spring is three weeks from today
The blackbird he knows the Spring Goddess is near
The weather grows milder at this time of year
On this calm August evening his flute sounded clear
A beautiful thing and so pleasant to hear
In the Country Town park in day's fading light
The blackbird he sings in the gloam before night
By his song him i recognize though him i can't see
His voice is a voice that's familiar to me.
